The Steiner family has created hair care and apothecary products since 1901. However, it wasn’t until 1934, when Herman Steiner took over the family business that Steiner became renowned hairdressers to the English upper class. The first salon on Conduit Street, London attracted celebrities and even royalty, so much so that Herman Steiner won the royal appointment. Steiner opened hair salons in every major city in England and also opened its first hair salon at sea onboard Cunard’s Queen Mary in 1967, followed by the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II, which has always had a Steiner beauty salon onboard its ship.
Of course the needs of the public constantly evolve, and Steiner’s success is enhanced by its ability to evolve with them. Over the the years, Steiner added treatment rooms to their salons and then fitness facilities, which marked the origin of its commitment to overall beauty and wellness. Today, Steiner-operated spas are exquisitely designed relaxation facilities that emphasize spa treatments for the face and body, comprehensive fitness programs, and alternative health care such as Acupuncture, Chiropractic services and medi-spa treatments such as Botox Cosmetic, Restylane, Perlane.
Steiner’s transition from land to sea began with European cruise lines and then migrated across the Atlantic to include US based cruise lines. Over the years, spas-at-sea became Steiner’s main source of business and would continue to grow until Steiner’s main competitor decided to sell his business. In 1994, Steiner purchased Coiffeur Transocean and became known as Steiner Transocean Limited, making it the largest spa company at sea by literally doubling its spa venues overnight. To accommodate the need for extra resources, including qualified staff and good quality products and services, Steiner invested in training and research and development through the purchase of Elemis LTD, its main provider of spa services. It also developed, in conjunction with scientists, its cosmeceutical facial-therapy and product brand, La Therapie.
Steiner continued to grow and purchased Mandara Spas, which are found in over 50 resorts in Asia, North America and the Caribbean, and also onboard Norwegian Cruise Line.
With an unrelenting passion and reverence for education, Steiner also purchased post-secondary schools in the USA, specializing in spa and beauty curricula.
